2020/21 Surrey Fixture Update

Following our 2020 AGM we considered a number of fixtures for both our men and women’s team in 2020/21. We’re holding back on finalising dates until we know the relevant club fixtures to ensure no risk of conflict. However, we are happy to share some updates about what fans can begin to look forward to.

We currently only have 1 friendly planned in 2020 due to a likely congested club fixture list, we’ll be announcing details of our women’s trial game soon, once dates are confirmed, but a venue and likely opposition have been decided, subject to dates. The game will be held behind closed doors, even if there is a change in government/FA guidelines, this is to best prepare ourselves and ensure the safety and well being of everyone in our first game since December 2019.

We’re hoping our 2021 Surrey home friendlies will be open to spectators and will retain our existing price structure for both Surrey men and women’s games. Adult: £5, 65+/Student: £3 and U16: Free. Meanwhile our Southern Frontier Cup prices will also remain the same as they were for the original 2020 edition, however the Early bird discount deadlines will change, tickets will launch in August, exact date to be confirmed, and will remain available until the end of 2020, on January 1st 2021, the prices will change to general sale, so don’t miss out on getting your tickets early with up to 1/3 off.

All games open to spectators will be ticket only, and details of how you can purchase your tickets will be announced when details are confirmed. This is to both ensure we comply with any track and trace measures and limited capacity measures still in place for our games.

Our men’s team will play their long overdue friendly against a Hampshire Xi side in aid of St Catherines Hospice and Crohn’s and Colitis UK in May 2021, and will still be sponsored by Milestone Transport Planning.

We’ll also be aiming to announce new dates for the Southern Frontier Cup soon as well. Cascadia, Parishes of Jersey and Yorkshire are automatically re-invited to the rescheduled tournament, but their places will be confirmed once new dates have been agreed

We’ll also be looking to confirm details for other fixtures, especially our women’s home debut soon as well, and potential opposition for this game is also being looked into.

Return to Play Update: 9 July 2020

International Surrey Football is pleased to see today’s update from the UK Government allowing the return of grassroots sports from 11 July, initially only covering grassroots cricket. The latest announcement supports the return of grassroots sports by allowing different households to participate in training and competitive matches while ensuring the risks of transmitting Covid-19 are minimised.

Last month International Surrey Football internally prepared a return to play plan for allowing the resumption of Surrey fixtures played behind closed doors, known as our “Behind Closed Doors Fixture Plan”, which outlined the measures that would be undertaken by International Surrey Football and our opposition at any game played once a resumption of the sport was allowed, and included COVID-19 self-assessments by players, track and trace, the following of social distancing and cleaning measures outlined by the Government as a necessary requirement for any sport to return.

However, in the best interest of our players, coaches, staff and in good faith in regards to our relationship with the Surrey County FA, we will continue to wait for the FA’s own guidelines and make changes to our plans to reflect the FA-UK Government approved return to play plan.

While the Government’s statement today may allow the return of a limited number of fans to a game, with social distancing measures involved, for the foreseeable future Surrey fixtures will be held behind closed doors, but live streaming options will be made available, and details will be published when available. Details of how fans can financially support the games, such as donations and merchandise, including “tickets” and programmes, will be announced if a fixture is confirmed.

We know ours players are eager to return to play, but so are their clubs, and we will continue to give clubs first priority on the return to play, however, Surrey will be making investigations and discussions on any possible fixtures, with both our men and women’s teams available for games. In the event that a game is confirmed, there will be no publication of the venue until after the game has been held, to best limit the potential for attempted spectator attendance.

The Surrey men had 2 friendlies and the debut Southern Frontier Cup cancelled, while Surrey women had their trial fixture and a potential friendly cancelled due to COVID-19. Possible arrangements for a men’s friendly and women’s trial game will be investigated and any updates will be published on our website and social media.

Merrist Wood College to Sponsor Surrey Women

International Surrey Football is pleased to announce that we have agreed to a front of shirt sponsorship for our senior women’s team and will work in association with Merrist Wood College, based in Worplesdon, near Guildford. The sponsorship creates a new link between International Surrey Football and local football in Surrey and is our first partnership with an educational programme.

Merrist Wood College hosts the Football Development Programme for boys and girls aged 16-19, which incorporates both full-time football training with post-16 education across five days a week. The programme has previously been operated in conjunction with Chelsea FC, but more recently with Westfield FC for their Under 18s boys, and independently with their Under 18s girls.

We’re pleased to welcome Merrist Wood College as our first women’s team sponsors, the team is currently taking registration for our upcoming trial fixture, with a planned debut in 2020. We held a meeting with Robbie Porter, manager of the college programme late last year, and we felt that there was a shared vision for pushing the development of women’s football in Surrey while providing a successful and fulfilling educational programme alongside it.

Merrist Wood College will be joined by two sleeve sponsors, existing sponsors CW Sport Radio and our new in house match highlight YouTube channel Surrey Football TV (SFTV). No back of shirt sponsor will feature on the Surrey women’s shirt. Shirts will be produced by Yorkshire based supplier Godzown Sports and will be available for purchase from their online store.

As well as the sponsorship, the two organisations will be working in association to help promote and create opportunities in women’s football for those aged 16-19 and build a platform towards senior club football and even up to senior representative football provided through International Surrey Football.

As part of this association it will see Merrist Wood’s Under 18 teams come under the name and banner of International Surrey Football for selected games and will serve as our official Under 18 teams, although in order to prioritise educational opportunities, a relaxation of eligibility rules will be applied to the teams allowing players from areas around the Surrey border, but not based in Surrey, the chance to play at Under 18 level, but only those meeting eligibility criteria will be able to be offered senior representative opportunities.

International Surrey Football will also provide opportunities for Surrey coaches to provide sessions for Merrist Wood students during the season and Merrist Wood will work with International Surrey Football to run summer camps for youth players of various age groups as Surrey looks to build its presence in youth football within the county.

The association will bring a new dimension to non-FIFA football for International Surrey Football, and we look forward to working with the college to achieve success.

Surrey Men’s Trials to be Rescheduled into Midweek Friendlies

International Surrey Football would like to report that it’s planned training fixture, due to be held at Merstham Football Club on November 17th 2019, will be rescheduled, and be replaced with a top be arranged midweek friendly against club opposition.

The decision was made following a number of players raising concerns about participating in a fixture after likely playing only 24 hours previous on Saturday 16th for their respected club sides.

Therefore, for player welfare and fitness reasons, it’s been decided that the scheduled training fixture due to take place on November 17th 2019 at the Whiskey Bible Stadium (Moatside), will no longer be taking place as previously announced, instead, a midweek friendly against club opposition will be organised as a replacement of the previous plans.

Details of the proposed fixture will be announced when available, any games against club opposition will take place before the end of the 2019/20 season, ahead of our planned fixtures to be held in May 2020. Players that are still interested in taking part in a rearranged fixture, can still sign up on our website.

Pre-Registration Launched for Surrey Women’s Showcase Trials

International Surrey Football is pleased to announce that pre-registration is now available for interested Surrey-based players for our International Surrey Women’s Showcase Trials. The trials will be used to help identify the inaugural squad of Surrey players that will feature in Surrey’s debut women’s game. Details of the debut are yet to be announced.

Details of venue and dates of the trials are yet to be announced and the format will be influenced by the number of interested players wanting to take part, with either a 44 players format, similar to that being used in the men’s showcase trials and a 22 player format which will involve a friendly against a local women’s club side.

Perspective players will be sent information regarding the trials as arrangements are made and will be able to give input that may influence decisions for the trials.
