International Surrey Football is pleased to announce that the final game in a 4 match series of home fixtures for Surrey’s senior men’s team will be against the Cascadia Association Football Federation.
The North American region, which has played a number of games including some in Surrey, has not previously played the Surrey men’s team, although were scheduled, alongside Parishes of Jersey and Yorkshire, to participate in the 2020 Southern Frontier Cup, a 4-team mini-tournament organised by International Surrey Football before it was cancelled by the initial COVID-19 lockdown in the United Kingdom.
Cascadia is well known for its participation in the 2018 World Football Cup in London as the only North American participant, representing the US states of Oregon and Washington and the Canadian province of British Columbia, which included a number of high profile players including former MLS defender, James Riley, and Scottish League Two/Canadian Premier League forward, Calum Ferguson.
Cascadia played their last game in May 2021 in an 8-1 loss to fellow British based team Kernow (Cornwall) in Kingswood, Middlesex. Cascadia has only played 1 game in their native North America, hosting Darfur United in Washington state for an 8-1 win in 2019.
A friendly between Surrey and Cascadia has been in the works for some time now, with COVID-19 related restrictions contributing heavily to the long wait for the game to be organised. International Surrey Football will be looking to end their men’s fixtures on a high against the strong Cascadian side that has often involved a number of Isthmian and Southern League players in recent years.
The game will be held at the Meadowbank Stadium in Dorking on Sunday 5th June, kicking off at 3.30 PM.
