Statement: 2021 Southern Frontier Cup (15/01/2021)

International Surrey Football are disappointed to announce that the Southern Frontier Cup will be postponed again to a date to be confirmed due to continued disruption and uncertainty for all teams scheduled to participate and the continued COVID-19 situation in the UK. While the tournament was meant to take place in 4 months time, all teams require a substantial amount of time ahead of the tournament to make arrangements including travel, accommodation, and more, and the window for all teams to prepare is continuing to shrink while non-elite football in England remains suspended for an uncertain period of time and no time scales made regarding even a limited return of fans which would make the tournament likely financially unsustainable without at least limited fan attendance.

We hope that the long awaiting Southern Frontier Cup will take place in the future as International Surrey Football’s premier invitational competition. No details regarding a rescheduled Southern Frontier Cup will be released at this stage.

All fans that have purchased tickets for the tournament will be issued an automatic refund, which will be processed this weekend, please allow a further 5 days for refunds to be issued by Eventbrite. Sponsors may keep their sponsorship for their rearranged fixtures or may get in contact to request a cancellation. Some sponsorship, such as the support given to International Surrey Football, by supporters of Liga MX side Tigres UANL will be extended to include coverage at all Surrey home games in 2021, details to be confirmed.

Updates regarding our planned women’s trial game will be provided in a separate statement at a later date.

International Surrey Football remains committed to playing fixtures this summer, if not sooner, and will instead use the postponement of the Southern Frontier Cup as an opportunity to make its fixture plans more flexible and ready for when non-elite football is permitted again in England with matches planned behind closed doors at the earliest opportunity likely, but no details will be provided until an update has been issued by the UK Government and Football Association.

We continue to look forward to taking to the pitch later this year with our new kit manufactured by Hope & Glory Sportswear in any setting and look forward to welcoming teams to Surrey. We hope we can welcome Cascadia, Parishes of Jersey, and Yorkshire, as well as other teams to Surrey sooner rather than later.

Physical commemorative tickets that were printed before the tournament’s cancellation will be made available on the ISF Shop later today as a memento to the 2021 edition of the tournament.
