Surrey to Play Chagos Islands in Pre-Christmas Friendly

International Surrey Football is pleased to announce that we’ll be sending a Surrey team to face the Chagos Islands in a pre-Christmas friendly on 22nd December 2019 in Crawley, Sussex where the island team is based.

The game will be Surrey’s last fixture of 2019, and new manager, Matt Dilger’s, first game in charge of the Blue and Gold. Chagos Islands are looking for a number of late 2019 fixtures before ConIFA’s December 31st deadline in a final push for qualification points for the 2020 ConIFA World Football Cup recently announced to be held in Skopje, the capital of the Republic of North Macedonia.

Surrey meanwhile are beginning their own preparations ahead of the inaugural Southern Frontier Cup in May 2020. The blue and gold will be looking to win the non-FIFA invitational tournament they’ve organised involving Yorkshire, Cascadia and the Parishes of Jersey and will be playing a number of games in the build-up to the tournament.

Surrey will be looking to improve on their previous close 3-2 loss against the Chagos Islands in May earlier this year. This will also be the first meeting in a non-FIFA fixture between the two managers, Matt Dilger and Jimmy Ferrar, both starting their first stints in charge of non-FIFA teams.

As well as the upcoming game against the Chagos Islands, Surrey will also be playing a number of friendlies against club side opposition in the remainder of the 2019/20 season in order to prepare the team for the May 2020 fixtures. Details of these games will be announced when available.
